Doctor of Creative Arts Journalling

I don’t usually journal my creative process. My portraits often evolve intuitively, guided by mood, gesture, and visual curiosity rather than structured planning.

However, as part of my Doctor of Creative Arts program, I took a more reflective approach as part of my self-created methodology that I have called ARRT (Artist Research Responses to Teaching). For this project, I documented my ideas and the development of each artwork, particularly focusing on the educators included in the study.

This journalling process allowed me to share the progression of each piece with the participants, offering them the opportunity to provide feedback or suggest any changes to the final portraits. This journal captures that unusual but valuable step in my practice; inviting dialogue, reflection, and collaboration into what is typically a solitary process.
